Each competitive class will be invited to compete in 2 – 4 different dance competitions over the course of the year, and in some cases more. These groups may also be asked to perform at various community events such as Community Days, Holiday Parades, etc.
Competitive classes include:
Shift Dance Academy offers a wide range of recreational classes for dancers to choose from. Recreational classes run once a week, offering young dancers the chance to try out various styles of dance.
Each recreational class will be invited to participate in our Holiday Performance and our Year End Recital. The dancers will work throughout the fall on a routine which will be performed in front of a live audience in December. The Spring show offers friends and family to see how much they have learned, and progressed over the year!
Recreational Programs are available for dancers between the ages of 3 and 19 years old. Dancers will be put into classes based on their age and level.
Shift’s Half Day or Day Programs are available for students in grades 7 through 12 who have reached a high degree of athletic ability and are looking to dedicate more time to their sport of choice. These programs allow students to leave school early each day to accommodate additional hours of intensive training. Some of the North Shore schools currently recognizing these types of programs are Hansworth Secondary, Mulgrave, West Vancouver Secondary, and Carson Graham Secondary, to name a few.
X-CELERATOR is a training intensive program for dancers in Grades 7 through 12 who have reached a high degree of athletic ability and are looking to dedicate more time to their sport of choice. X-Celerator students finish school at lunch time each day allowing them access to day-time dance classes, dependant on their personal schedules. Many of the North Shore schools recognize these types of advanced athletic programs including Sentinel Secondary, Rockridge Secondary, Windsor and Carson Graham Secondary, to name a few.
X-CELERATOR requires dedication and determination, as every class will offer new challenges and unparalleled rewards. Our program provides dancers classes which are only available to day time students, as well as to diverse cross training activities available around the city. The X-Celerator program allows students more one on one attention as class sizes are much smaller allowing for more refined attention to detail. Faculty members and guest teacher’s work together to help each dancer recognize their strengths and opportunities for improvement. We can’t wait to show you our dancers’ progression as the year moves forward!
X-CELERATOR students are required by the Ministry of Education to be working at an advanced Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examinable level. In our day program, students will take a minimum of two hours of RAD ballet classes, and two hours of jazz technique, which frees time up in their evening schedules. Additional hours will be determined based on recommendations from teachers and suggestions from dancers on which areas of dance they want to focus on.
