Competitive Programs

The Competitive Program at Shift Dance Academy is available for students looking to take their dancing to the next level. Competitive classes offer a greater challenge and require more dedication than a recreational class; and students absolutely love it!

Choose the program that fits your family’s lifestyle!

Starting with as little as 2 classes a week, let us help you design a schedule that works for your family!

We offer three divisions within our Competitive Program:

  • Performance
  • Pre-Competitive
  • Full Competitive.

These programs allow for more performance opportunities with varying levels of commitment.

Shift Dance Academy offers something for everyone!

Exam Based Programs

Ballet

The ballet program at Shift Dance Academy will be taught using the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus. The Royal Academy of Dance program is an internationally recognized program where students are trained in classical ballet dance and examined to reward their efforts. RAD ballet is acknowledged by the Ministry of Education  and specific exams can be counted toward school credits.

Exam Based Classes require students to attend a minimum of 2 classes each week in their designated exam level. It is important to note that RAD grade level does not necessarily correspond with academic grade level. Exams will occur at least once over the course of the dance year, with some exam levels having multiple dates to choose from.

The idea of an exam based class is to teach students of all ages the importance of working hard to achieve something. With the end goal in mind, students work all year to prepare themselves for the exam. Each student is graded individually and exam results are 100% confidential. Exams are available in all levels for both the Graded and Vocational syllabuses.

Half Day Program

X-CELERATOR – Shift’s Half Day Program

Shift’s Half Day or Day Programs are available for students in grades 7 through 12 who have reached a high degree of athletic ability and are looking to dedicate more time to their sport of choice. These programs allow students to leave school early each day to accommodate additional hours of intensive training.

Our X-Celerator Program is available for dancers in the North and West Vancouver School Districts, as well as all Private Schools.

Email info@shiftdance.ca for more information.

What is required to be part of the X-CELERATOR program?

X-CELERATOR students are required by the Ministry of Education to be working at an advanced Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examinable level.  This ensures that students are receiving academic recognition for their dance training.

Why is this important?

Each student needs to meet the minimum number of credits under the BC Ministry guidelines in order to graduate.  By withdrawing from an elective to allow for a half day timetable, dancers need to ensure that they are attaining their credits in other avenues.  Our X-CELERATOR program offers dancers the opportunity to further their training AND get academic credits at the same time!

Why X-CELERATOR?

X-CELERATOR requires dedication and determination, as every class will offer new challenges and unparalleled rewards. Our program provides dancers classes which are only available to day time students, as well as to diverse cross training activities available around the city.  The X-Celerator program allows students more one on one attention as class sizes are much smaller allowing for more refined attention to detail. Faculty members and guest teacher’s work together to help each dancer recognize their strengths and opportunities for improvement. We can’t wait to show you our dancers’ progression as the year moves forward!

When is X-CELERATOR?

X-CELERATOR classes are offered Monday through Friday from 1:30pm – 3:00pm.   The students will be divided into groups based on age and level which will determine which week days their set classes will be held on.

What type of schedule can I expect with the X-CELERATOR program?

Students will be offered RAD ballet classes, jazz technique classes, and Solo/Duo/Trio training sessions, which free time up in their evening schedules.  This unique schedule offers dancers the flexibility to choose to have their training schedule start earlier in the day so they can have more time for homework and spend more time with family at night!

Additional hours will be determined based on recommendations from teachers and suggestions from dancers on which areas of dance they want to focus on.
